Opening of the traditional festival commemorating the 157th anniversary of the sacrifice of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc

On the evening of October 17, the Organizing Committee of the Traditional Festival commemorating the 157th anniversary of the sacrifice of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc (1868 - 2025) organized an art program to open the festival with the theme "The heroic spirit of Nguyen Trung Truc - An Giang firmly steps into the future".

Attending the ceremony were Vice Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Le Trung Ho, representatives of departments, branches, and tens of thousands of people and tourists from all over the country coming to offer incense and worship.

The opening art program was elaborately and grandly staged with the themes “The Heroic Spirit of Nguyen Trung Truc” and “An Giang Steps Firmly to the Future”. The performances emotionally recreated the life and illustrious career of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc, who led the insurgents to fight steadfastly against the invading French colonialists.

Highlights of the opening night included the cai luong opera “Nguyen Trung Truc - The Immortal Name” and an excerpt from “Heroic Spirit” performed by People's Artist Trong Phuc and famous artists, receiving enthusiastic cheers from a large audience.

Besides, songs praising the homeland such as "Oh An Giang", "Homeland of love and youth", "A round of Vietnam" and "An Giang - Love of rivers and seas" brought a joyful atmosphere and pride for the heroic Southern land.

Previously, in the afternoon of the same day, the Festival Organizing Committee held a solemn incense-lighting ceremony at the stele marking the site where National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc was executed by the French in 1868.

Attending the incense offering ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Tan Dung, former Politburo member, former Prime Minister; General Le Hong Anh, former Politburo member, former Standing member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat; Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee Nguyen Tien Hai; Standing members of the Provincial Party Committee, Standing members of An Giang Provincial People's Committee, leaders of departments, branches, armed forces, intellectuals, religious dignitaries, representatives of ethnic groups and relatives of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc from Gia Lai, Tay Ninh and Ca Mau provinces.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Hai, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of An Giang Provincial Party Committee, offered incense to National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc.

Here, the delegates held a moment of silence, expressing their infinite gratitude to the hero in plain clothes, who would rather sacrifice himself than submit to the enemy, with the immortal declaration: "Only when the Westerners have uprooted all the grass in the South will there be no more Southerners fighting the Westerners."

It is known that in order for the Festival to take place thoughtfully, solemnly and safely, relevant localities in the province such as Rach Gia, Chau Thanh, and Phu Quoc special zone have actively renovated urban areas, decorated streets, and at the same time strengthened security, order and food safety.

The traditional festival commemorating the 157th anniversary of the sacrifice of National Hero Nguyen Trung Truc took place with many rich activities in both the Ceremony and Festival parts, including traditional rituals, trade fairs, amateur music performances, traditional martial arts and a lantern festival. This is an opportunity for people and tourists to preserve and promote the cultural and historical values and the immortal patriotism of the Vietnamese people.
